Project Description

Brief: Designed a Quotation Management System for Reliance General Insurance

Client Name: Reliance General Insurance

Sector: Financial Services- Insurance

Date : 15th August- 15th December 2021

QMS is basically a Quotation Management System used in the world of insurance. This was an inward-facing application used by agents, underwriters, and sales managers to maintain premium quotes.

My roles and responsibilities as the only designer on the QMS team were:

  1. To create a Business Requirement Document for shareholders and the dev team after conducting extensive qualitative research with RGI agents(users)

  2. To create a new information architecture schema

  3. To create wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes of the web application.

  4. To create meaningful screens that are easy to use

KPIs, Objectives & Goals

The objectives were:

  1. Processes in the application should be time efficient.

  2. Minimum data entry form should be created for users for creation of quotes.

  3. The application is supposed to act as a single point of reference for the Sales, Underwriting and Strategy requirements of Fire LOB, both generic and specific to the products.

  4. User error rate needs to be significantly low as the application deals with premium amounts. Any errors could lead to loss at the end of the company and its customers.

Project Outcome

This project is under-development and has become extremely close to my heart. From the 3D illustrations to some of icons have been designed by me to provide for consistency. I completed the design and research in two months without any sort of assistance which I consider a huge win.

I did not want to pigeonhole myself into the role of a Product Designer. I felt that I could offer additional insights that would be key to the execution of the product. Hesitantly I asked if I could sit in with stakeholders in product meetings. At first, I wasn't allowed to speak but then gradually my inputs were heard and I created the business requirement document, something totally alien to my job description. I believe that understanding how to strike a good balance between users’ needs and available resources is essential to designing robust solutions.

"Reviving a product that had been under development for over 2 years was not easy. The development team and I worked around the clock to make it happen. There were several eureka moments. I would go to sleep thinking about it and five minutes later I would be up making some fixes that I could employ to make the product better."

My boss became my life mentor and the connections I made through the project are beyond just work. That is a bigger win for me. I have a standing offer with Reliance to work for them permanently!

Thanks for submitting!
